How to check your company's AI visibility
AI visibility is the question of whether a language model mentions you when someone asks for a provider in your industry. That is not the same as a Google ranking and it is not measured the same way. Below is the order of steps our measurement follows and what each one tells you.
Questions first, technical checks second
The measurement starts with the questions your buyer actually asks. Not with your company name: if you ask a model about you by name, it will almost always have something to say, and that answer tells you nothing about whether it recommends you to someone who does not know you yet.
The free measurement asks eight such questions, each once, on the lower-cost models of three providers: claude-haiku-4-5, gpt-4o-mini and gemini-3.5-flash-lite. The paid report asks one hundred and twenty questions, repeats each of them three times and uses the larger models of the same three providers: claude-sonnet-4-6, gpt-4o and gemini-3.6-flash. That is one thousand and eighty calls per report.
The language of the questions is set by the market of the analysed domain, not by the language you read the report in. The language is measured from the text of the home page; the domain suffix is only a fallback when the text cannot be read. English is always included, at most two languages in total.
What gets counted in the answers
Three things are read from each answer: whether you are mentioned, where in the list you appear, and who is mentioned alongside you. The third is often the most useful: it shows who the model considers your competition, and that list can differ from the one in your head.
- Share of mentions: in what share of answers you appear at all. This is the largest single score item, forty points out of one hundred.
- Average position: where in the list you sit when you are mentioned. Eight points.
- Model coverage: how many of the three models mention you at all. Twelve points. Being mentioned by a single model is a weaker signal than being mentioned by all three.
The technical part: whether they may and can read you
The remaining forty points say whether your site is readable for an AI crawler at all. You can check this part yourself, without a tool, which is exactly why it is a good first step.
- robots.txt and six AI crawlers: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and CCBot. Twelve points. A blocked crawler means the model cannot read you, however good the rest of your content is.
- Content without JavaScript: ten points. What appears only after scripts run is an empty page to many crawlers.
- Structured data: eight points. Seven types are checked: Organization, Corporation, LocalBusiness, ProfessionalService, Service, FAQPage and SoftwareApplication.
- llms.txt six points and sitemap.xml four points.
One measurement is not a measurement
A language model does not answer the same question identically every time, so a single score is a starting point, not a verdict. It becomes useful once you repeat it and look at the difference: did you gain mentions, did you move up the list, did the set of competitors beside you change.
That is why every run after the first shows the delta against the previous one. Monitoring runs every fourteen days or weekly, depending on the plan. We do not offer daily monitoring, because one day of difference here says less than the noise between repetitions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check AI visibility myself, without a tool?
The technical part, yes. Open your-domain/robots.txt and look for any of the six AI crawlers being disallowed. You can see the content without JavaScript by turning scripts off in your browser. The answers part is harder: a model does not answer the same question identically every time, so a single manual query in ChatGPT is one sample, not a measurement.
Which models does the measurement use?
Three providers: Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. The free measurement runs on their lower-cost models, the paid report on the larger ones. Perplexity is checked in the technical part as a crawler (PerplexityBot) but does not take part in the queries for now, so we do not list it as a measured platform either.
How long does a measurement take?
The free measurement with eight questions is done within minutes and the result arrives by e-mail. The paid report takes longer, because it makes one thousand and eighty calls; those run in parallel windows rather than one after another.
Is AI visibility the same as SEO?
No, although they overlap. The technical part is very similar: readable content without scripts, structured data, a sitemap. The difference is in the other part: a search engine returns a list of links, while a language model writes an answer and either mentions someone in it or does not. A high search ranking does not guarantee a mention in an answer.
